The Google Nexus S smartphone is a newly launched device and the first phone to run on the latest version of the Anrdroid operating system-Gingerbread.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system from Google is incredibly fast. Browsing the web is a dream experience and with Flash Player 10.1 also being supported, viewing video content is also possible. Android’s appearance has also been modified a bit. Google says that the changes are designed to improve battery life as the screen consumes less power. Nevertheless, compared to its competitors, Android is not very easy to use because it is far from intuitive. The list of features are endless but some of the features are not much helpful for the common user. For example, the Google Nexus S supports NFC (near field communication) which means that you could wave your device near NFC enabled stickers to do things like paying for goodies using a wireless payment system. However, presently it is not of much help except for being bombarded with marketing information. You could wave your phone against film posters and it would load a related website for you.

Google Nexus S designed with the latest Android platform, co-developed by Samsung and Google

Another unique feature is the built in SIP, which is the protocol used for making calls over the internet. So you can make phone calls over the internet without installing a separate app for it. It is quite an appealing feature because it is free. However installing this feature isn’t quite as appealing. The voice quality in the calls is poor with a lot of delay but there should be no complaint, because you do not have to pay for it.

The Google Nexus S has a Super AMOLED screen which is very vivid and does not reflect blindingly in bright daylight. Considering the large screen and the power packed in this device, it is surprisingly light weight. The screen is slightly curved which helps it to sit nicely against your face when you are making calls. It has a 16 GB storage though there is no memory card slot. But it should be easy to store your music, videos and pictures because you can connect the Google Nexus S to your computer like a flash drive. You can also use it for games because Android has the best gaming performance with 1Ghz main processor and a specialized graphics processor.

Overall, the Google Nexus S is a phone which exudes raw performance though it is not very intuitive to use. So if you got deep pockets, you can spend it on a phone that truly displays how smart Android 2.3 Gingerbread can be.

The Orange San Francisco has got some great features going for it but Orange has plastered many of its irritating applications into it and spoiled the fun. First of all, the phone costs only 99 pounds which is great. But even greater is that it runs on the power packed Google Android operating system. That makes it a worthy instrument to check out but you might have a lot of cleaning up to do to get rid of the hideous Orange branding.

The Orange San Francisco is a beauty for a price as low as 99 pounds. The greatest feature on this phone is its 3.5 inch touchscreen which provides excellent contrast and brightness. It may not be as good as a smart phone but nevertheless does the job well. It supports multi-touch which means you can zoom in and out by pinching your fingers. The battery life proved to be average and the 3-megapixel camera was decent. However the slow processor of the Orange San Francisco made the process of taking a picture sluggish.

Another great feature of the Orange San Francisco is that it runs on the power packed Google Android operating system. Google has packed many features into its phone software with the best being Google Maps which would ensure that you never get lost again. The Orange San Francisco also includes a wi-fi so you can easily access the internet at home or at work. Since Orange has decided to plaster its branding all over the phone you may have to spend an hour or so uninstalling all the useless applications. Some of the applications like Orange Wednesdays are useful, but they mostly serve to destroy the beauty of the phone and make it even more confusing. Even worse is that Orange has removed the default Android email application and so you are forced to pay for another email program from the market or use Gmail only which has got its own email application.

Everything on the default home screen of the Orange San Francisco has been plastered with ugly Orange icons which ruin the beautiful touchscreen. Although this may not sound worse than it is, the fact is that most people using this phone would be first time smart phone users and this factor would ruin their first purchase experience.

In summary, the pros of the Orange San Francisco are:

1. Beautiful 3.5 inch touchscreen
2. Power packed Google Android operating system
3. Inexpensive

And the cons of the Orange San Francisco are:

1. Default email application of Android removed and replaced with an Orange service which needs to be paid for
2. Orange branding plastered all over the phone
3. Useless Orange applications

Overall, the Orange San Francisco is certainly an excellent package at this price. However it could have been an even greater experience had it not been plastered in Orange.
